Bangor University scientists including C3W Director Professor James Scourse and Dr Paul Butler are taking the “Oldest animal in the World” on a road-trip! Dubbed Ming The Mollusc, Arctica islandica can live more than 500 years, we know this because annual bands in their shells can be counted (sclerochronology) similarly to tree-rings (dendrochronology). Ming has already appeared at the Royal Festival Hall in London – see link and is due to appear at the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff at a bi-lingual exhibition 24th-26th October 2011.
